Ashford and St Peter's Hospitals Ophthalmology Department is looking for one substantive glaucoma consultant, one substantive paediatric ophthalmology consultant and one substantive medical retina consultant to expand and complete our current team.
Ashford and St Peter's Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is a large acute Trust in West Surrey and one of the largest in the region. Ashford Hospital lies close to Heathrow Airport. St Peter's Hospital is situated between Chertsey and Woking. The two hospitals serve a diverse population of around 450,000 on the borders of Surrey and Middlesex. This area includes Woking, Chertsey, Walton-on-Thames, Weybridge, Ashford, Staines, Bedfont, Feltham and Spelthorne.
Ophthalmology clinics take place every day at Ashford Hospital & St Peter's Hospital, with additional diagnostic clinics at Woking Community Hospital. Day case surgery takes place in dedicated ophthalmic theatres at Ashford Hospital with paediatric and other selected surgeries at St Peter's Hospital.
You will be expected to develop and maintain a high standard of practice and take an active role in all activities of the Department, including teaching and audit. The timetable will include both F2F and virtual clinics with a regular theatre list.
Main duties of the job
- Deliver Clinical, Educational, Managerial Services of the highest professional standard at Consultant Level to the Department
- Work with existing consultants and the multi-disciplinary team to provide a high quality well-led service for patients of Ashford & St Peter's, including the diagnosis, investigations, treatment and management of patients, in accordance with Trust policies and practices.
- Deliver Direct Clinical Care to patients, through all parts of the Department assisting clinical decision-making and sharing equally in the workload.
- The Consultant team will provide comprehensive senior clinical cover to the Department.
- Any changes will be by negotiation and will be reflected in the job plans of the team.
- Have a continuing responsibility for the care of patients in his/her charge, ensuring safe handover as appropriate.
- Engage fully with the care of patients outside the department and provide a prompt opinion on request from consultant colleagues in other specialties.
- Engage with medical, nursing, management and all relevant co-workers in the delivery of department objectives.
- Actively participate in and support other staff with education, research, audit and clinical governance activities involving a multi-disciplinary workforce across the department
- Participate in the professional training of the staff in the department, Teaching and training will require verification of teaching certification
