Job summary

  1. To work according to the Code and within Trust policies
  2. To be accountable for the twenty four hour care delivery and management of the ward, including the supervision of students.
  3. To provide a clear focus for clinical leadership and be responsible for ensuring the provision of a high standard of holistic, patient-centred care
  4. To be accountable for co-ordinating patient care, the management of resources and performance of staff
  5. To be responsible and accountable for the Finance and Human Resources issues directly related to the ward
  6. To be responsible and accountable for the implementation of Audit, Quality and Risk Management initiatives
  7. To promote and participate in the implementation of the ASPH Nursing & Midwifery strategy and objectives
  8. To maintain a visible presence in the ward, undertaking clinical work as per roster agreement
  9. To work in conjunction with the Acute Medicine Matron / Senior ward team / Practice Educator & Learning Development Teams

Main duties of the job

  • Work in close conjunction with Ward Acute Medicine Matron / Senior ward team / Practice Educator/ Learning Development Teams
  • Acts as a role model and resource, providing information and promoting high standards of patient care, whilst working closely with other professionals.
  • Monitors and maintains acceptable standards of care in conjunction with the multi-disciplinary team.
  • Participates and assists with adult medical emergencies utilising Advanced Life Support skills and experience where necessary. Takes an active role in the management of clinical emergencies within the clinical area.
  • Ensures appropriate communication and referrals occur in relation to the early intervention of the acutely ill or deteriorating patient to facilitate implementation of care specifically in the Assessment Bay.
