Sexual Health Trust Doctor

Job summary

This is a 1.0 WTE fixed term post as a Trust Doctor in Oxfordshire Sexual Health Service. The post would particularly suit doctors considering a career in genitourinary medicine, community sexual and reproductive health, obstetrics and gynaecology or general practice or those doctors with an active interest in this area or desire to broaden their experience. Doctors taking a career break have also found this to be very useful experience.

Main duties of the job

Genital Skin Disease and complex GUM and Vulval

Weekly clinics are staffed by supervised specialty registrars/SAS doctors and consultants. These clinics provide a range of care and treatments for the management of the more complex GUM cases.

Contraception

Specialist clinics compromise complex contraception (referral) clinics, difficult IUD clinic for fits and removals and referral implant clinic for removals (with ultrasound). There are dedicated training clinics for DFSRH and Letters of Competence in IUT and SDI.

Psychosexual

Oxfordshire psychosexual service provides assessment, signposting and treatment of the full range of sexual dysfunctions.

Prison

OSHS provides an in-reach genitourinary medicine clinic service to Bullingdon Prison, a male category B / C prison, and Huntercombe Prison.

HIV

The department runs one of the two services in OUH NHS Foundation Trust (the other being run by Infectious Diseases). The department's service provides regular care for approximately 350 patients. There are three dedicated HIV clinics held weekly at the Churchill, supported by a specialist pharmacist and a small cohort of patients attend the Banbury clinic for HIV care.

In-patient facilities are provided by the relevant specialties, including Infectious Diseases and Gynaecology.

Clinical

The postholder will be based primarily at the Churchill Hospital but it is a condition of the appointment that he/she is willing and able travel to work in any of the Trusts locations (this includes all peripheral sites).

The post holder will be expected to:

Take part in the rota to staff routine telemedicine sexual health clinics (with level of supervision appropriate for experience and competence).

Work in peripheral clinics as well as the hubs.

Provide holistic sexual health care including contraception, STI testing, management of sexually transmitted infections, provision of PEPSE, sexual health advice and health promotion with appropriate supervision and training.

Work as part of the multidisciplinary sexual health team to provide an effective and safe sexual health service. This will involve attending the departments clinical governance meetings and participating in quality improvement projects, audit and service developments.

Work flexibly up to 19:00.

Work occasional Saturdays?

Maintain patients electronic records to Trust standards.

Assist with clinical administration, for example, checking results, diagnosing episodes for GUMCAD reports entering data for SHRAD reports, corresponding with patients and their general practitioners as required

Keep statutory and mandatory training up to date including level 3 Safeguarding of Children and Information Governance as a priority.

The post-holder should always be aware of the need to maintain confidentiality in dealing with patients, their treatment and care and to be aware of the special requirements of VD Regulations Act (1974) and the AIDS Control Act (1987)
