Job summary
The post holder will be required to transport patients, carers and equipment to and from the Hospice in a professional, caring, comfortable, and timely manner, using our wheelchair adapted vehicle or an appropriate fleet vehicle.
Main duties of the job
The postholder will be required to effectively communicate with patients, carers, relatives and healthcare colleagues to provide a quality service. There is an expectation that the post holder will have frequent and direct contact with patients and families, who may have varying levels of distress and anxiety.
The postholder will be expected to use the database to record all journeys accurately and in a timely manner.
The post holder will complete regular vehicle checks to ensure the safe running and maintenance of hospice fleet vehicles.
The postholder will hold a full driving licence with no more than 3 penalty points at the time of application.

Job responsibilities
- To undertake driving duties to the required standard subject to appropriate training, driving vehicles carefully with every consideration being given to the passenger, any equipment, the vehicle itself, other road users and to comply with the Highway Code and Trust Policy guidelines and current Legislation .
To use the wheelchair adapted vehicle, this will require the post holder to risk assess the best way to undertake the moving of patients taking into consideration their needs, both medical and cultural and to follow Health and Safety and other appropriate protocols and procedures.
To manoeuvre patients into the fleet vehicles using either the patients wheelchair or walking aids and safely secure the patient and their equipment within the vehicle for the duration of the journey to and from the Hospice.
To promote and maintain good internal and external communications links with patients, colleagues and associated services and health service colleagues to provide and support a positive patient experience.
To report any untoward incident immediately in accordance with Trust Policy.
To report any incidences of risk, neglect, abuse or endangerment.
To undertake all statutory and mandatory training.
To use all Trust equipment, facilities and premises in a careful, proper and mindful manner always paying due regard to safety and security.
To be responsible for the security of patients property and patients valuables during the transportation and hand-over at their destination if required.
To accurately complete and administer information and documentation as necessary and in accordance with current General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) requirements.
To comply with all the Trusts Polices and Procedures, including participation in the Trust appraisal scheme
To record all journeys using the database, accurately recording mileage, journey logistics and odometer readings.
To assist in planning cost effective, efficient and appropriate routes, taking into consideration the journey time and comfort for our patients.
