Job summary
The post holder will be a Speech and Language Therapist within the Acute Neurosciences Speciality at John Radcliffe Hospital, playing a key role in delivering high-quality, person-centred care for patients on Neuroscience inpatient wards. This may also include opportunities to work on the highly specialised Neuro Intensive Care Unit. The successful post holder will work closely with the Clinical Lead SLT for Acute Neurosciences, contribute as an integral member of the wider Adult Speech and Language Therapy Department, and collaborate effectively with the wider multidisciplinary team to ensure the best outcomes for patients.
Main duties of the job
Utilize specialist clinical skills to assess, diagnose, and manage a specialist caseload of adults with acquired swallowing and communication disorders on the acute neuroscience inpatient wards, including opportunities to work on the Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit.
Select and deliver high-quality assessments and evidence-based interventions to ensure effective therapy.
Work collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team, actively participating in MDT meetings to support therapy planning and patient discharges.
Independently manage a clinical caseload, prioritizing workload and making autonomous decisions regarding patient care.
Provide second opinions to colleagues as needed.
Contribute to audit, quality improvement, and service development initiatives within the specialty and across the wider SLT Department as needed.
Take responsibility for providing clinical teaching and supervision to other healthcare professionals, students and SLT colleagues as required and with support from the Clinical Lead SLT for Acute Neurosciences.
Provide cross-site cover, supporting the caseloads of other Speech and Language Therapists within the Trust as needed.
Collaborate with SLTs across the Neurosciences pathway to ensure continuity of care. This includes SLT colleagues working at the local Level 1 Neurorehabilitation Unit in Oxford (Oxford Centre for Enablement).
