Detailed job description and main responsibilitiesKey Tasks and ResponsibilitiesClinical practice To practice as a specialist nurse both independently and with colleagues in thedevelopment of a patient centred TB service. To provide a TB service consistent with the latest Department of HealthRecommendations and according to local needs. To act as a competent and efficient decision-maker within and on behalf of the service To provide expert clinical advice, dissemination of information and sharing ofexperiences with other health care professionals To provide a nurse-led outpatient clinic to screen people for TB, including TB contacts,new entrants to the UK from areas with a high prevalence of TB, others referred byGPs and Hospital Doctors as appropriate To ensure sound knowledge of drugs, the side effects and contra indications To undertake independent or supplementary prescribing for patients receiving TBmedication or prophylaxis, in agreement with the consulting physicians. To provide nurse-led outreach clinics for TB screening in hospital and communitysettings as and where appropriate. To provide a domiciliary service to patients as required. To provide Directly Observed Therapy (DOT) as appropriate and take appropriateaction if problems arise To provide appropriate referral of patients for further medical assessment as required. To be responsible for developing standards of care and monitoring clinical practice inpartnership with the nursing team, Respiratory and Infectious Diseases doctors. To maintain accurate documentation and audit inline with Trust Clinical GovernancePolicy. To adhere to the NMC Code of Conduct and Scope of Professional Practice at all times. Autonomously plan, co-ordinate and monitor care for patients requiring enhanced casemanagement Demonstrate ability to adjust treatment and interventions for standard and enhancedcase management according to the patients needs throughout the investigation andtreatment pathwayProfessional To be required to maintain constructive relationships with a broad range ofstakeholders To participate in relevant internal and external working groups / projects, services, andinitiatives which may be highly complex, sensitive, political, and contain contentiousinformation To attend liaison team meetings and other departmental meetings as appropriate. To participate in training to maintain competency and awareness of current trends. To liaise effectively with other agencies such as UKHSA, GP practices and schools. To liaise with chest clinics to facilitate contact screening and the seamless provision ofcare to patients moving in and out of the Oxfordshire area. To be enable the change in service consistent with agreed service development. To contribute to the development of, and be responsible for the effective implementationof health policies within own practice area.Education and Research To develop and maintain a healthy clinical learning environment for qualified nurseswithin the TB service. To contribute to the education of health care professionals within the Oxford UniversityHospitals NHS Foundation Trust on matters relating to the TB service. Education and support of patients, families and carers. To maintain awareness of current advances and changes in clinical practice To encourage and promote research and educational activities within the unit andprofession and be involved in their evaluation. To contribute to courses run by the Health Protection Agency and the Oxford UniversityHospitals NHS Foundation Trust including lecturing and practical demonstrations To share information with health care professionals involved in the TB service regionallyand nationally. To support and facilitate project work within the Oxford University Hospitals NHSFoundation Trust, so as to continue quality improvement within the service. To participate in audit and research.Personal Development To be aware of and contribute to regional, national and international debate andknowledge about Tuberculosis through presentation of papers and participation inprofessional conferences and study days inline with agreed objectives. To take responsibility for own personal and professional growth and for maintaining arecord of professional development experiences. To be proactive in reflection, self-assessment and development, participating in peerreview as appropriate. To meet with the clinical team of the Oxford Respiratory Unit, Infectious Diseases Unitand Health Protection Team on a regular basis for feedback support and information.
