The Medicines Effectiveness Team are excited to announce a fantastic opportunity to join the newly established Best Value Medicines and Biologics Team in OUHFT. This innovative team, alongside the Medicines Effectiveness Team, will play a pivotal role in driving cost-saving initiatives across biologic medicines while ensuring that patients continue to receive the highest standards of care.
The Best Value Medicines and Biologics Team will focus on identifying, promoting, and implementing strategies to maximise cost-saving opportunities for both commissioners and the Trust. By evaluating and optimising biologic prescribing and usage, the team will ensure that value for money is achieved across the healthcare system, while maintaining clinical effectiveness and safety.

As a member of this dynamic team, you will work collaboratively with clinical and financial stakeholders, including prescribers, pharmacists, commissioners, homecare and procurement teams, to identify areas where cost efficiencies can be made, particularly in the use of biosimilars and other biologic therapies.
The post holder will play in pivotal role in mobilising identified cost saving initiatives and create a framework for the fast and efficient implementation of cost saving initiatives.

1 OVERALL OBJECTIVES:
1.1 To focus on in the creation of a robust framework to facilitate the early and successful implementation of identified upcoming biosimilars, enabling the Trust to maximize cost efficiencies while maintaining high standards of patient care.
1.2 To deputise for the chair of the Best Value Medicines and Biologics Group (BVMB). BVMB will be a subgroup of the Trusts Medicines Management and Therapeutics Committee. Its main function would be to ensure the cost-effective use of biologic medicines and to coordinate the savings plan on biologics and other high-cost medicines, especially biosimilars and other high-cost medicines that have their patient expired.
1.3 To support the Biologics and Medicine Value Lead pharmacists by promoting and facilitating best value in the use of HCD with a particular focus on biologic medicines (including biosimilars) ensuring best value, reduced harm and improved outcomes from the significant investment in medicines.
1.4 To play a key role in implementing savings initiatives relating to biologics, for example, introducing new biosimilar products into the Trust.
1.5 To identify savings opportunities relating to biologic medicines and implement a program of projects to achieve the savings. The Senior Pharmacy Management Team, The Medicines Effectiveness Team, NHSE Specialised Commissioning Pharmacy Team and BOB ICB Medicines Optimisation Team will support this.
1.6 To work as part of the Trusts Best Value Medicines and Biologics and Medicines Effectiveness teams to achieve the Trust's Medicines Optimisation strategy in relation to the clinical and cost-effective use of medicines within the Trust.
1.7 To work with the OUH Medicines homecare team to optimise the use of homecare for biologics and other high-cost medicines.
1.8 To work collaboratively alongside Commissioning Pharmacists to deliver the best value from the use of HCDs by supporting cost saving initiatives.
1.12 To attend and/or provide information for appropriate prescribing committee meetings such as the Trusts Medicines Management Therapeutics Committee (MMTC), Cost Effective Use of Medicines Group, Homecare User Group, as well as BOB ICBs High-Cost Drugs Group, NHSE High-Cost Drugs, Medicines Optimisation Collaborative Leadership Group (MOCL), as well as other OUH and stakeholder meetings as needed.

- Qualified to masters degree level (4 year MPharm) or equivalent Member of the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
- Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy or equivalent experience
- Experience of working as a clinical pharmacist at a high level in a variety of clinical areas
- Budget management or monitoring ability and demonstrable success in achieving savings
- Experience in creating evidence-based reviews on medicines.
- Experience of working in a multidisciplinary team
- Experience of under-taking and supervising audits or drug use evaluations
- Experience of teaching and tutoring
Desirable
- MSc in Clinical Pharmacy
- Involvement in a pharmacist-led outpatient clinic
- Experience of developing drug protocols / contributing to formulary development
