Job summary
Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has a fantastic opportunity for band 6 midwives to rotate into the Infant Feeding Team. You will be promoting good infant feeding practices throughout the unit to women and maternity staff. You will be supporting the team to provide infant feeding expertise, education and audit to work towards the level 3 Baby Friendly Initiative accreditation.
You will support the multidisciplinary team to deliver high quality infant feeding support, ensuring excellent service user experience. Whilst ensuring the timely management and support of any feeding difficulties referring to specialists where appropriate.
The post holder will work closely with the Infant Feeding Coordinators, Postnatal Ward Managers, Community Midwives and Matron for Public Health. There will be opportunities to develop the post-holders' skills including receiving training

This role is mainly weekdays with some weekend working required. You will be required to work flexibly to support the service demands.
Main duties of the job
ROLE SUMMARY
To promote, support, protect and normalise breastfeeding in their everyday practise in line with the Maternity Infant Feeding Policy.
To ensure all women receive support and information to allow them to make an informed choices regarding infant feeding.
To be able to motivate, inspire and empower staff to achieve best practice.
To act as an infant feeding resource within the clinical area, supporting staff to enable mothers to carry out feeding in an evidence based and effective manner.
To work closely with the Infant Feeding Specialist (IFS) and the rest of the Infant Feeding Team (IFT) in order to initiate new ideas, practices and approaches to direct clinical care of mothers and babies.
To work with the Infant Feeding Specialist and IFT to provide infant feeding training throughout the maternity service for all staff who come in to contact with new mothers so that they are confident to provide a high standard of basic infant feeding care.

We have 4 stand-alone Midwifery Led Birth units within the county based at Banbury, Chipping Norton, Wantage and Wallingford as well as offering home births to all areas. As a large Tertiary hospital, the John Radcliffe offers a large Delivery Suite with an en-suite birthing pool room, 3 Maternity theatres and a specific Maternity Recovery Ward.

To be an effective time manager whilst working as an autonomous midwifery practitioner
To support the Infant Feeding Specialist in ensuring that midwifery practice in regards to infant feeding is both evidence based and is developed in line with best practice
In conjunction with the Infant Feeding Specialist and with her guidance, control resources related to the promotion of breast feeding.
To be recognised as a specialist professional with an increased knowledge in infant feeding and act as a resource of information and support for colleagues.
To work with colleagues and enable them to undertake midwifery led assessment of mothers and babies needs within the specialist area of infant feeding and implement and evaluate clinical care as appropriate.
To reduce the length of stay of women needing a higher level of specialist BF support by developing a follow-up system that women requiring specialist breastfeeding support can be referred to on discharge from hospital care.
To facilitate the smooth running of the any daily breastfeeding drop-in or clinic support running in the maternity service. To be responsible for the maintenance and servicing of equipment e.g. breast pumps.
