Main duties of the job
The role of the 2ww Specialist Nurse is to review and triage referrals using locally agreed proformas and to facilitate the booking of investigations in a timely manner. Communication with patients takes place over the phone, gaining further information to ensure safe triage, giving medication and pre assessment advice and offering information to facilitate investigations. Following up results from investigations involves discharging or liaising with the patient, GP and other members of the multidisciplinary team with outcomes if further investigations are required.
The post holder will require excellent communication and interpersonal skills, an ability to maintain accuracy and attention to detail even when working under pressure and be able to work independently. IT literacy is also critical. This is a fast paced service, which will test your organisational and prioritising skills.

You will learn about the Two Week Wait pathway, early cancer care diagnosis, become involved in multi disciplinary communication, and develop further knowledge in gastroenterology, hepatobiliary and colorectal conditions.
