Job summary

The post holder will work as part of the Immunisation Service with a focus to provide robust evidence-based advice/support and improve uptake of vaccinations in pregnancy for the Oxfordshire. The Immunisation Nurse/Midwife will work closely with the Maternity services to support and deliver vaccine to all eligible pregnant people throughout the Trust.

The focus of the role will include embedding behaviour change approaches to promote health and wellbeing to those accessing Maternity services, developing and promoting the service both to healthcare professionals, service users and their families.

This role requires safe and meticulous vaccine management which ensures the safe delivery of these specific immunisations. This will include working closely with our partners in Pharmacy, upholding the high standards of the trust is being adhered. This role will facilitate the need to work both at the John Radcliffe Womens Centre Immunisation Hub as well as the Horton Maternity Unit Immunisation Hub. Therefore, the immuniser must have a car with appropriate insurance and be able to travel to both sites as required. The post holder is expected to work flexibly to meet service needs, including some weekend vaccination clinics.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work to ensure equality for all our service users when accessing immunisation services, to support maternity colleagues to identify groups who are not accessing the vaccine in a safe, supportive environment. Also using evidence-based information on the benefits of immunisation whilst making every contact count.

Work jointly with maternity services in antenatal clinics and other settings. Providing 1:1 conversation with pregnant people and new mothers to address questions/concerns regarding immunisation. Encourage a holistic, non-stigmatising approach to all service users.

Promote and work in addressing health inequalities by targeting vulnerable groups. Increasing uptake from varied communities and people from socio-economically deprived backgrounds, ensuring an easy to access, equitable service for all.

Delivery of the RSV, Pertussis, Flu and Covid vaccines and any other vaccines as required by NHSE and the JVCI, knowing that these recommendations may change throughout the year.

Organise and develop approaches to promote health through the empowerment of women, and their families by providing accessible information.
