Job summary

The Transport Coordinator is a key member of the team that includes the services Lead, Manager, Drivers, and Volunteers.

The Coordinator will provide a high quality, prompt and efficient transport service for the patients and families under the care of Sobell House and Katharine House Hospices and is pivotal in maintaining the transport office systems and administration of processing all transport requests received.

Main duties of the job

The main duties include:

  • Line management of the employed transport team and volunteer drivers.
  • Maintain the relevant databases capturing staff and volunteer activity and producing reports.
  • Deliver training to volunteers and staff pertinent to the transport role.
  • Assist to recruit and interview volunteers.
  • Ensure all fleet vehicles are kept in good working order.

Job responsibilities

The Transport Coordinator is a key member of the team that includes the services Lead, Manager, Drivers, and Volunteers.

The post holder will provide a high quality, prompt and efficient transport service for the patients and families under the care of Sobell House and Katharine House Hospices.

The post holder is pivotal in maintaining the transport office systems and administration of processing all transport requests received.

The post holder will directly line manage the employed hospice drivers.

The post holder will effectively co-ordinate the staff/volunteer drivers and manage the running and maintenance of hospice fleet vehicles.

The post holder will be expected to maintain the relevant databases used for keeping patient and family information, including capturing, and maintaining staff and volunteer records of activity and producing reports as requested by the service Lead, Manager and Sobell House and Katharine House charities.

The post holder will be expected to have excellent organisational and IT skills, be capable of using own initiative, take responsibility for organising the workload, be able to work both independently and as a team member.

There is an expectation that the post holder will have frequent and direct contact with patients and families, who may have varying levels of distress and anxiety.
