Job summary

The post-holder's duties will be primarily at the John Radcliffe, Churchill and Horton General Hospitals; however it is a condition of the appointment that the post holder will be willing to work in any of the Trust's locations.

Main duties of the job

This post will involve diabetes and endocrinology clinics and MDTs, including a specialist Cystic Fibrosis & Diabetes clinic.

Job responsibilities

: The appointee will also contribute to Acute General Medicine (AGM) in 4 week blocks on the Horton +/- JR sites. AGM on both hospital sites has recently undergone reconfiguration with a greater focus of the acute medical teams on Acute Medicine (first 72hrs of care) and Complex Medicine (anticipated LOS >72hrs). The Horton is a District General Hospital in Banbury with an Emergency Department admitting a largely unselected medical take, although some specialist services (e.g. STEMIs, acute general surgery) go directly to John Radcliffe. There is a team of at least 8 general physicians based at the Horton operating a team with ward-based structure, with on-call currently 1 in 8. Unselected acute admissions are around 20/day and inpatients average around 20 (one ward). A consultant is typically supported by a team of doctors comprising an ST3+, CMT/FY2/GPVTS and an FY1. The AGM medical takes at the John Radcliffe Hospital are consultant team based you are oncall with your team (ST3+, CMT/FY2/GPVTS, FY1 and medical students) for every take that you do which is extremely popular with the junior and senior medical staff as it provides a true sense of firm structure. The 24 hour period is split into three takes and the consultant retains the patients who are admitted to the short-stay areas. Patients admitted to the Complex Medicine Units or other specialty wards are handed over to those teams. This maintains continuity for over 75% of all patients as the majority have a length of stay of less than 72hours.

Essential

  • MB BS or equivalent MRCP or equivalent
  • Full GMC registration with licence to practice
  • Full and Specialist registration (and with a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC), or be eligible for registration within six months of interview. OR CCT registration on GMC Specialist Register in Endocrinology / Diabetes AND General Internal Medicine or within 6 months of achieving CCT at the time of interview. OR Applicants that are non-UK trained, will be required to show evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT
  • Applicants that are UK trained, must be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview. Or Applicants that are non-UK trained, will be required to show evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT
