Job summary
Wehave an exciting opportunity for a fixed term role as Band 4 Therapy Assistant within the Women's and Men's Health Physiotherapy service. The position is for 18.75 hours per week and is a fixed term role until 31/3/2025, although there may be an opportunity to extend this.
The Women's and Men's Health Physiotherapy team delivers a comprehensive range of services in gynaecology, urogynaecology, obstetrics, urology, colorectal surgery, and sexual health. We are a team of 12 including clinical and administrative staff, and are based over three sites - the John Radcliffe, Churchill, and Horton General Hospitals. This role is part of our Perinatal Pelvic Health Service (PPHS) development, and will help support women who are referred to our service with pelvic health conditions during pregnancy and the post-partum period,
This is an ideal opportunity for those who have had experience working as a Band 3 assistant in a health and community setting and are looking to progress their career to Band 4, as well as current Band 4's looking to work in a specialist area. The post will involve working both on the hospital inpatient maternity wards and in an outpatient setting. The role will include gathering information from patients, following treatment plans, providing antenatal and post-natal education to patients both on a 1:1 basis and in a group setting, and maintaining up to date records in line with Trust policy.
Main duties of the job
To work as an integral member of the Women's and Men's Health Physiotherapy team to plan and provide programmes of therapeutic activity for patients, within the framework laid down by therapists.
To assist in the provision of care to patients, supported and supervised by a physiotherapist. To be accountable at all times to a registered practitioner.
To deliver antenatal and post-natal education groups, in both face-to-face and online settings.
To work under indirect supervision to independently give pre-defined advice to women in the maternity setting, including both inpatient setting and following discharge.
After a period of training, to be responsible for the initial assessment of post-natal patients in line with guidelines, for the following conditions:
a. Obstetric anal sphincter injuries (OASI) / 3rd/4th degree tears
b. Diastasis rectus abdominus (DRAM)
c. Pelvic floor conditions including incontinence (urinary and faecal) and pelvic organ prolapse
d. Post-natal pelvic girdle pain
To maintain clinical records in line with Trust and professional standards.
To establish and maintain effective working relationships within relevant multidisciplinary teams.
