Job summary

This post will work within a team of consultant colleagues to provide a comprehensive GI pathology service in the Oxford University Hospitals, including performing or supervising cut ups, microscopy, or other diagnostic techniques, reporting cases, and supporting clinical meetings and case discussions. The ability to provide support in respiratory pathology would be an advantage, and additional programmed activities may be available for this.

Main duties of the job

OUH Trust in partnership with Oxford University aims to be at the forefront of modern diagnostic techniques. A willingness to adopt new diagnostic techniques into Cellular Pathology and undertake training where necessary is essential. The department is advanced in the adoption of digital pathology

Support of colleagues and services in the partner trusts will be an increasing component of the post as digital pathology and an integrated laboratory information management system facilitate closer working across the sites. Qualifications/Training

Essential

  • FRCPath or equivalent
  • Applicants that are UK trained, must ALSO be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview / Applicants that are non-UK trained, will be required to show evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT
  • Full and Specialist registration (and with a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC) or be eligible for registration within six months of interview.
  • Specialist training in GI pathology

Desirable

  • Specialist training in respiratory pathology

Experience

Essential

  • Independent reporting of complex GI cases cases
  • Evidence of ability to make decisions at consultant level and to manage complex clinical problems.

Skills and Knowledge

Essential

  • Ability to lead and to support the leadership of others.
  • Effective administrative and time management skills. Training in clinical management.
  • Understanding of management roles in NHS pathology and willingness to engage with and participate in management.
  • Evidence of ability to work in a clinical team at the level of a consultant in a teaching hospital
  • Evidence of significant contribution to successful teamwork
  • Willingness to share cases and seek second opinions appropriately
  • Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience of formal and informal contributions to teaching and training.
  • Evidence of effective and sustained contribution to clinical governance, clinical risk management and clinical audit activities
