Job summary
The Emergency Department operates from two sites: the John Radcliffe Hospital Oxford (JRH) and the Horton Hospital Banbury (HH).
The JRH is a designated 'Major Trauma Centre' with the full range of secondary and tertiary specialties and annual ED attendances of over 110,000, serving a secondary care population of ~400,000.
Main duties of the job
The Department works to deliver high quality care as locally as possible. Some pathways (eg for hyper-acute stroke, acute myocardial infarction, major trauma and surgery) reflect the enhanced capabilities of the JRH - patients presenting to the HH with those conditions undergo emergency assessment, stabilisation and transfer if appropriate. At the JRH, resident specialist teams deliver stroke thrombolysis and coronary angioplasty. The development of a World Class Trauma network for the region with the JRH at its hub is well advanced. We have just completed estate works which has provided us with a new Ambulatory and Trolley Assessment Area, an expanded Paediatric department and a brand new state of the art 9 bedded Resuscitation Area, with adjacent CT scanning facility, shock suite, dedicated paediatric room and isolation facilities.
We are seeking the highest quality senior medical staff at both sites: leaders in clinical care, teaching, research and service development who can contribute enthusiastically to meeting the local challenges.
We encourage applicants who have a preference for working predominantly on either the JRH or on the HH site. Where such a site focus is agreed, we would expect sessions (up to 50%) to be delivered at the partner hospital as an aid to effective integration, service development and professional development.
About us

The post-holder's contribution to teaching, training and research will be included in the regular job plan review.
