Specialty Doctor - Certificate of Eligibility of Specialist Registration (CESR) Development Post with Rotations in Trauma and Orthopaedics

Applications are invited for the post of Specialty Doctor with rotations for achieving Certificate of Eligibitity of Specialist Registration (CESR) in Trauma and Orthopaedics at the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

One Specialty Doctor post is available as a full-time appointment to start as soon as possible as a fixed term post for 3 years.

We will support individuals in the training required, to achieve Specialist Registration via the Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR) route, through a local CESR rotational programme.

We are looking for candidates who aspire to complete a full training rotation within the Trauma and Orthopaedic Directorate, Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

The posts will deliver parallel training with that provided by Health Education England. The Trust would provide, over the course of the training period, experience in all subspecialties of orthopaedic and trauma care together with the support required to successfully complete all aspects of the CESR process. Post holders preparing for FRCS (Tr & Orth) will have access to the NTN teaching programme based at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre and John Radcliffe Hospital.

Main duties of the job

The establishment of this rotational training programme is ten speciality grade doctors. At any one time six of the speciality doctors will be based at the Horton General Hospital, whilst four speciality doctors will be on our bespoke CESR rotation (at present split between Birmingham Children's Hospital, John Radcliffe Hospital and Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre sites).

The duties will involve specialty doctor on-call for admissions including ward cover, day to day care of in-patients, clinics and theatre sessions.

On-call duties will be based at the Horton General with the exception of those based at the John Radcliffe Hospital. At the Horton this involves resident first on-call and a shift system of 1:9 with prospective cover. 1:6 within week on-call, 1:9 weekend on-call. The John Radcliffe works a 1:8 full shift system as the Major Trauma Centre for the Thames Valley Region.

Both Elective and Trauma supervised operating will be available and training in this is expected.

Over the training period, the trainee will be expected to fulfil the requirements of the JCST standards for specialty training.

If once these requirements have been obtained and FRCS (Trauma and Orthopaedics) has been passed, the Trust will help with progress through the CESR process in order to allow application for Consultant posts.
