Job summary

To develop the skills required to provide high quality clinical care to ill and injured patients in the pre-hospital environment, as part of a two year joint programme involving training at both Thames Valley Air Ambulance (TVAA) and Oxford Critical Care (OCC), with a rota split on a 2 week alternating basis between both services, with overall work hours, annual and study leave split 50% between both services. Duties will be required at a range of locations, including John Radcliffe Hospital (OCC), Churchill Hospital (ICU), RAF Benson and Stokenchurch House (TVAA).

Main duties of the job

The program is ideal for developing core clinical skills and procedural competence in managing acutely unwell medical and surgical patients. The high level of clinical supervision provides the optimal training environment for trainees looking to develop their clinical practice in critical care medicine in both the prehospital and hospital environments.

Job responsibilities

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To work as a PHEM doctor at Thames Valley Air Ambulance, providing pre-hospital emergency medical care on an overall full-time rota, including anti-social working hours commitment
  • To work as a Second Tier Critical Care Doctor initially, progressing to First Tier (advanced airway) if appropriate, based on skills and experience, across both critical care units at the John Radcliffe and Churchill Hospitals in Oxford.
  • To engage with their educational supervisors and attend training days for both EM and PHEM
  • Comply with the training requirements that mirror the IBTPHEM national training programme
  • Maintain a portfolio in line with the IBTPHEM curriculum requirements
  • Complete the DipIMC examination during the 2 year fellowship
  • Progress towards the FIMC eligibility certificate and subsequent examination
  • Attend and participate in TVAA and OCC clinical governance meetings
  • Contribute to TVAAs organisational development through audit and project work
  • Support the ongoing development of TVAAs critical care paramedics and their skills framework
  • Comply with all policies and procedures of both TVAA and OUH respectively
  • Complete Statutory & Mandatory Training as required

Experience
