Job summary

We are seeking highly motivated and enthusiastic person to join our dynamic friendly Neuroradiology team at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. We are looking for a dynamic flexible individual to work as a Radiology Assistant in the West Wing Neuroradiology department. This is a role that contributes to the smooth running of the Radiology Department and the candidate will work closely with all staff, including Radiographers, Radiologists and Nurses to provide a high standard of patient care. You will be required to work as a Radiology assistant in the front line of patient care, assisting with various examinations in different imaging modalities including CT, MRI and Angiography. As a Radiology Assistant you will need to have good communication skills, a caring nature and ability to remain calm under pressure. You will be involved in coordinating patient transfer to and from Radiology, liaising with other departments and wards. You will be required to do some clerical duties using both Electronic Patient Record and the Radiology Information System. The post is working a mixture of day shifts between the hours of 8.00-20.00. The candidate will be required to work weekends and bank holidays, on a rota system.

Candidates are welcome to attend the department for an informal visit prior to interview.

Main duties of the job

  • To work closely with and under the supervision of radiologists, radiographers and nurses to assist in the provision of a high quality imaging service.
  • To be a member of the interdisciplinary team, contributing to and delivering effective, quality care of radiology patients.
  • To respect and maintain confidentiality in all matters relating to the Unit and patients.
  • To keep the Unit well maintained, stocked and tidy, while adhering to health and safety policies.

Job description

Job responsibilities

  • Greeting patients in the waiting areas, checking and confirming patient identification details according to Trust protocols.
  • Act as patient escort; taking them to the changing rooms, preparing patients for their relevant examinations or escorting them when no qualified nurse is required.
  • Assisting the departmental staff during examinations and procedures e.g. nerve root injections.
  • To be responsible for setting up equipment for some procedures and clearing away appropriately afterwards.
  • To be responsible for the care of a defined group of patients (e.g. hygiene / comfort needs, assisting with personal hygiene needs, assisting with appropriate diet/fluid, under the direction of nursing staff following appropriate training.
  • To keep nursing/radiography staff fully informed and to seek advice and support when indicated.
  • To be able to complete patient documentation for admission.
  • To demonstrate initiative and the ability to identify changes in patients condition which need to be reported to a designated nurse /radiographer/radiologist
  • To maintain accurate and legible patient and departmental records.
  • To answer the telephone, deal with enquiries promptly and courteously and either take appropriate action or refer to appropriate radiology staff.
  • Maintaining dignity and privacy of patients at all times.
