Job responsibilities
To contribute to the smooth running of the Radiology Department and towork closely with all staff, in particular Radiographers andRadiologists to provide a high standard of patient care. To meet therequirements of the Health and Safety at Work Act (1974), the Control ofSubstances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) Regulations, the Data ProtectionAct (1999) and the Ionising Radiation Regulations (1999) and IonisingRadiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations (2000), and any subsequentlegislation.
RESPONSIBILITIESKEY RESULT AREAS- Providing support to Radiographers and Radiologists performingimaging procedures on different imaging modalities, for patientsreferred to the Radiology department.- Explaining to patients the preparatory requirements for theexamination and administering these as required, e.g drinking ofcontrast media.- To undertake the care and reassurance of patients undergoingimaging procedures- Attending to patients needs, including chaperone duties, manualhandling and helping dress/undress where necessary.- To perform intravenous cannulation in line with Trust andDepartmental protocols as appropriate (training will be provided).Author : BC. April 2017Review date : April 2018- Preparation of contrast agents for radiological examinations as andwhen required.- Observing patient confidentiality at all times.- To undertake the transfer of mobile x-ray equipment and accessorieswithin the department, and throughout the hospital, as required.- Liaising with ward staff to co-ordinate patient transfer both to andfrom the Radiology Department.- To undertake the transfer of patients between wards anddepartments within the hospital.- To maintain high standards of cleanliness of equipment andaccessories, in addition to keeping examination rooms and changingareas clean, tidy and supplied with linen and relevant disposableitems, (e.g. syringes, needles).- Carrying out clerical duties when required including use of theElectronic Patient Record system, Radiology Information System, andthe Picture Archive and Communication System, (training will beprovided).- Contributing to the department's Quality Assurance and Auditprogrammes, if required.- Participating in all relevant in-service training programmes.- Taking part in the appraisal system.- Participating in weekend and Bank Holiday rotas.- To work in all Radiology departments on the John Radcliffe site,including the Childrens Hospital and the West Wing, when required.- To participate in any Major Incident and follow the Radiologydepartment policy.- Undertaking any other tasks and duties, which may be delegated formtime to time.Author : BC. Establish and maintain close and harmonious relationships with Medicaland Nursing staff.Physical Effort & Working ConditionsThe post holder will:1. Be subject to exposure to ionising radiation on a frequent / regular basis.Such exposure will be managed according to departmental protocols.2. Have frequent use of VDU equipment on a daily basis.3. Have regular exposure to distressing and emotional situations on a dailybasis e.g. caring for the critically and terminally ill4. Have frequent exposure to body fluids e.g. blood, urine and etc andinfection risks and occasional exposure to lice and/or fleas.5. Be required to position and manoeuvre patients and equipment on adaily basis. In any clinical situation, patients may be ambulant, in awheelchair, stretcher/bed. Transfer to an x-ray table is often required.Movement of wheelchairs, stretcher/bed over short distances throughoutthe working day or night is required.6. Demonstrate an ability to concentrate for prolonged periods and to applyaccuracy and attention to detail even in adverse conditionsAuthor : BC. and should make themselves familiar with the local response plan and their rolewithin that response.
RESPONSIBILITIES FOR HEALTH & SAFETY
The post holder is responsible for ensuring that all duties and responsibilities of thispost are carried out in compliance with the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974,Statutory Regulations and Trust Policies and Procedures. This will be supported bythe provision of training and specialist advice where required.
INFECTION CONTROL
Infection Control is everyones responsibility. All staff, both clinical and non-clinical,are required to adhere to the Trusts Infection Prevention and Control Policies andmake every effort to maintain high standards of infection control at all times therebyreducing the burden of Healthcare Associated Infections including MRSA.All staff employed by the ORH Trust have the following key responsibilities:
-Staff must wash their hands or use alcohol gel on entry and exit from allclinical areas and/or between each patient contact.- Staff members have a duty to attend mandatory infection control trainingprovided for them by the Trust.- Staff members who develop an infection (other than common colds andillness) that may be transmittable to patients have a duty to contactOccupational Health.Author : BC.
