Job summary

The West Wing Theatre Department is looking for an experienced, passionate and dedicated Deputy Team Leader, scrub nurse/ ODP to join our team of highly skilled scrub practitioners. The West Wing Operating Theatre Department is a 14-theatre unit and provides elective and emergency care for adults and children. It is one of four highly specialised craniofacial centres in the UK, one of seven specialist units for cleft lip & palate surgery. It is a tertiary referral centre for neurosurgery and the unit is recognised for ground-breaking work in Ophthalmology surgery. Other specialities include ENT, Maxilla-Facial and Children (general surgery & orthopaedics).

Main duties of the job

Due to an expansion of our team, we have two Band 6 scrub vacancy within our West Wing Theatre department. If you can do the following this may be a great opportunity for your development:

  • The ability to work effectively at a senior level,
  • The ability to make effective decisions based on all available information and guide the rest of the theatre team to deliver high quality care to our patients.
  • Ability to analyse audits, incident reports and risk, taking appropriate action to remedy.
  • Has specialist knowledge across a range of surgical specialities and a minimum of 2 years scrub experience.
  • Supports the evaluation and implementation of Trust, Divisional and Directorate Quality Priorities.
  • Demonstrate leadership skills.
  • Human and material resources management will be within the scope of practice of a senior practitioner.
  • Acting as shift coordinator.

  • Registered Nurse (Part 1. 8. 12 or 15 of register depending on area of practice), ODP HCPC registration or National certification in area of Practice
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development through maintenance of an ongoing NMC/HCPC revalidation.
  • Minimum of 3 years acute care registered nurse/ODP experience
  • Evidence of achievement of a NMC approved Mentorship qualification
  • Able to prioritise own workload and that of others as appropriate
  • Demonstrates ability to maintain and contribute to the development of standards of practice, conduct or decision making in conjunction with team leaders/unit coordinator
  • Able to supervise non-registered and less experienced staff to ensure effective care delivery
  • Articulate and knowledgeable of skills needed to deliver a high standard of care in the area of practice
  • Demonstrates awareness of importance of working as part of a team

  • Post-graduate qualification related to an area of practice
  • UK recognised Degree in Nursing relevant to post or equivalent qualification for ODPs
