POST OF: LOCUM CONSULTANT IN OPHTHALMOLOGY (Medical Ophthalmology)

A full tine 10 PA post as a locum Consultant in medical Ophthalmology is available from 01st May 2024 at the Oxford Eye Hospital. The ideal candidate would have post CCT Fellowship in medical ophthalmology and/or medical retina and would particularly suit those with an interest in uveitis as well as age-related macular degeneration and ocular oncology. Candidates with uveitis experience but without ocular oncology experience are encouraged to apply. This is a locum consultant post fixed term for 12 months to cover maternity leave of the substantive potholder. he 10 PAs are apportioned 8.5 for direct clinical care and 1.5 for supporting professional activity with an on call commitment. This post is purely a medical post and there are some virtual sessions which can be done remotely.

Main duties of the job

The post holder's duties will be primarily at Wantage Community Hospital as well as the John Radcliffe Hospital but it is a condition of the appointment that the post holder will be willing to work in any of the Trust's locations.

Aims and responsibilities

The basis for this post is to provide medical retina Services for the Oxford Eye Hospital from Wantage.

Clinical

The post-holders' duties will be primarily at the Oxford Eye Hospital. The Oxford Eye Hospital is equipped with state-of-the-art diagnostic and therapeutic capabilities including the full gamut of imaging technologies including OCTA. Our medical retina department is using virtual clinics in addition to face to face appointments.

Facilities for studying and training

The post-holder will be required to keep himself/herself fully up-to-date with their relevant area of practice and to be able to demonstrate this to the satisfaction of the Trusts. Professional or study leave will be granted at the discretion of the Trusts, in line with the prevailing Terms and Conditions of Service, to support appropriate study, postgraduate training activities, relevant CME courses and other appropriate personal development needs.

We are looking for an enthusiastic Locum Consultant Medical Ophthalmologist with an interest in uveitis, AMD and ocular oncology to join our established team of 24 Consultants and work in the Oxford Eye Hospital.

The Oxford Eye Hospital provides a medical ophthalmology service to the Oxfordshire Population This post is to provide consultant level cover in uveitis and medical retina (AMD). There is one medical ophthalmology fellow and 3 medical retina fellows and optometrists with extended role and Deanery trainees who work in the service. The intravitreal injection service is provided largely by allied health professionals. Separate vascular medical retina and vitreoretinal services provided and are outside the scope of this post. The post is based Oxford Eye Hospital. The medical ophthalmology & medical retina departments are using virtual as well as face to face appointments. Applications from those wishing to work part-time are welcomed and given the sub specialist interests we would be flexible and encourage enquiries from appropriately trained candidates without for example ocular oncology experience,
