OXFORD UNIVERSITY HOSPITALS NHS FOUNDATION TRUST CONSULTANT IN OPHTHALMOLOGY

We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated Consultant Ophthalmologist to join our established team of 24 Consultants and work in the Wantage Community Eye Clinic and Oxford Eye Hospital.

The Oxford Eye Hospital provides a medical retina service to the Oxfordshire Population This post is to provide consultant level cover in medical retina particularly diabetic retinopathy and other retinal vascular conditions.

Main duties of the job

A part-time (8 PA 32 hours) post as a substantive Consultant in Ophthalmology with a subspecialty interest in medical retina is available from 01st January2024 at Oxford Eye Hospital and Wantage Community Hospital. This is an additional post to expand the medical retina service particularly for South Oxfordshire. The ideal candidate would have post CCT Fellowship in medical retina and would particularly suit those with an interest in age-related macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy & retinal vascular conditions. This is a substantive additional appointment comprising of 8 programmed activities (PAs) and an on-call commitment. This post is purely a medical post but theatre allocation would be considered for the right candidate.

About us

The Oxford Eye Hospital provides a medical retina service to the Oxfordshire Population This post is to provide consultant level cover in medical retina particularly diabetic retinopathy and other retinal vascular conditions. There are 7 substantive consultants who support the medical retina service (some are part time and some are academic) as well as a senior specialist in diabetic retinopathy. There are 3 medical retina fellows and optometrists with extended role and Deanery trainees who work in the service. The intravitreal injection service is provided largely by allied health professionals. Separate uveitis, ocular oncology and vitreoretinal services are provided and are outside the scope of this post.

The post is based at the Oxford Eye Hospital which is equipped to provide the full range of diagnostic imaging including ultrasound, retinal imaging and angiography including OCT-A. The medical retina department is using virtual as well as face to face appointments in the vascular medical retina and age-related macular degeneration services.
