Job summary

A post as consultant in Transplantation and Organ Retrieval with a special interest in intestinal transplantation surgery is available now at the Churchill Hospital.

The appointment is on a whole-time/part-time basis, but applications are welcome from those who wish to job share.

Candidates are highly recommended to visit the department and hospital and are invited to contact Consultant Surgeons Mr Sanjay Sinha or Mr Srikanth Reddy, Clinical Lead in Transplantation, Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust (Tel: Oxford (01865) 223872), or Miss Bryony Lennon, Directorate Manager for Renal, Transplant & Urology (Tel: 01865 227107)

Main duties of the job

The postholder's duties will be primarily at the Churchill Hospital but their presence may from time to time be required in other parts of the Trust. The post will also include involvement in the provision of transplant services in satellite outpatient and inpatient services in other hospitals as part of transplant services and participation in organ retrieval from other donor hospitals as part of the Oxford-based multi-organ retrieval service for transplantation.

The postholder is expected to contribute to the designated national specialist services - intestinal transplantation & kidney autotransplantation. The postholder will be expected to play a significant role in the establishment of collaboration with adjacent transplant providers with the intention of expanding the scope of transplant activity within the broader Oxford programme. This may entail a degree of off-siteworking.

About us

The clinical kidney transplantation service was established in Oxford in 1975 and has developed to become a multi-organ transplant service carrying out more than 200 transplants per year. Pancreas transplantation started in 2002, with NCG designation in 2004 and Oxford now provides the most active pancreas transplant service in Europe. In 2008, NCG designated Oxford for pancreatic islet transplantation and intestinal transplantation. The unit also provides a surgical service in vascular and peritoneal access for dialysis and other surgery to support renal patients at the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust. Since 2010, the unit has contributed to the National Organ Retrieval Service for all abdominal organs
