About us
The clinical kidney transplantation service was established in Oxford in 1975 and has developed to become a multi-organ transplant service carrying out more than 200 transplants per year. Pancreas transplantation started in 2002, with NCG designation in 2004 and Oxford now provides the most active pancreas transplant service in Europe. In 2008, NCG designated Oxford for pancreatic islet transplantation and intestinal transplantation. The unit also provides a surgical service in vascular and peritoneal access for dialysis and other surgery to support renal patients at the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust. Since 2010, the unit has contributed to the National Organ Retrieval Service for all abdominal organs
