Job summary

The OPHTHALMOLOGY fellowship is available from August 2024 at the John Radcliffe Hospital. This fellowship is for candidates interested in one or more of the following subspecialties: Uveitis (ocular inflammation) and medical retina. If you are interested in neuro-ophthalmology as an additional subspecialty interest, this can also be accommodated.

The appointment is on a whole-time basis, but applications are welcome from those who wish to job share.

This post is suitable for doctors who have completed their training or have completed a significant part of their training but seek experience in Uveitis (ocular inflammation) and medical retina prior to obtaining a consultant appointment. It is not a post that is approved for training by the Royal College of Ophthalmologists. Main duties of the job

Ophthalmology Clinical Fellow based at the John Radcliffe Hospital Oxford from August 2024 for a period of 12 months. We welcome candidates who are interested in enhancing their training to include ocular inflammation, and medical retina and/or neuro-ophthalmology. This post is suitable for ophthalmologists who have completed their training (to CCT level) or have completed a significant part of their training including postgraduate examinations but seek experience in the above ophthalmology subspecialties prior to obtaining a consultant appointment. It is not an approved training post. The post holder will have the opportunity to work within a dynamic team of uveitis and medical retina specialists wide ranging subspecialist interests ranging from uveitis, paediatric uveitis, vascular medical retina, AMD, ocular genetics, specialist retina, ocular oncology and von hippel lindau. We are also a national centre for neuromyelitis optica and neurofibromatosis type 2. We participate in a multidisciplinary service for our regional Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis service. Medical Ophthalmology is a cross-disciplinary service and we encourage participation of our trainees in rheumatology, sarcoidosis, vasculitis and multiple sclerosis clinics to deepen knowledge of the conditions giving rise to uveitis. The fellows are involved in the training of nurse and other allied health professional injectors increasingly to transfer the injection service to a nurse-led clinic.
