LOCUM CONSULTANT in CLINICAL INFECTION & GENERAL MEDICIN
One full time 1-month locum post (10 PAs) as consultant in Clinical Infection and General Medicine (AGM) is available at the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust from 29.1.24-29.2.24
The post-holder is expected to have Full and Specialist registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) in Infectious Diseases and General Internal Medicine or be eligible for CCT and specialist registration within six months of interview.

Main duties of the job
OVERVIEW OF JOB DOMAINS
CLINICAL WORK
Clinical responsibilities will be divided between out-patients services (ID, HIV, OPAT, TB, bone infection, diabetic foot infection, hepatitis and chronic fatigue), in-patient infection service (ID, BIU), infection consults, and acute general medicine (AGM). Clinical duties will be based at the John Radcliffe Hospital (infection consults, outpatients, infectious diseases in-patient work, general medicine), the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre (Bone Infection Unit), the Churchill Hospital (diabetic foot infection clinic and service, haem-onc/transplant infection consult work) and the Horton Hospital (ID/AGM service).
It is a condition of the appointment that the post holder will be willing to work in any of the Trust's 4 locations. The travel time between the John Radcliffe and NOC/Churchill hospitals is approximately 20 minutes. The travel time from the John Radcliffe to the Horton Hospital is 45-60 minutes. Appropriate office space and administrative support will be provided.
Infection Prevention and Control and Antimicrobial stewardship
The post holder will have an active role in delivering infection control advice, antimicrobial stewardship and conducting case investigations on all sites. They will be expected to make an active contribution to the production of relevant policies within the terms of the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Code of Practice on the prevention and control of infections and related guidance).

Teaching/Research
Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is a teaching hospital trust, and the post-holder will be required to participate in programmes for teaching clinical students, training junior doctors and in clinical examinations. It is expected that this will be an integral part of everyday clinical activity.
Clinical Governance
The post-holder will participate in all clinical governance activities, including clinical audit, clinical effectiveness, risk management, quality improvement activities as required by the Trust, and external accrediting bodies.
Personal and Professional Development
The post-holder will be required to keep himself/herself fully up-to-date with their relevant area of practice and to be able to demonstrate this to the satisfaction of the Trust.
Management
The post-holder will be required to work within the Trust's management policies and procedures, both statutory and internal, accepting that the resources available to the Trust are finite and that all changes in clinical practice or workload, or developments requiring additional resources must have prior agreement with the Trust. He/she will undertake the administrative duties associated with the care of his /her patients and the running of his/her clinical service under the direction of the lead clinician and/or directorate chair.

Essential
- GMC Registration with licence to work
- Post Graduate experience in Infectious Diseases
- Experience of inpatient and outpatient management of infectious diseases and ward-based infection consultations.
- Experience managing an inpatient infectious diseases service and acute unselected medical takes at consultant level.
- A strong and demonstrable commitment to the organisation and delivery of teaching
- Evidence of ability to make decisions at consultant level and to manage complex clinical problems.
- Good leadership skills. Evidence of ability to lead a clinical team at the level of consultant in a teaching hospital.
Desirable
- CCT within 6 months
- Higher medical degree
- FRCPath Microbiology or Virology or evidence of equivalent training and experience.
- Diploma in Tropical Medicine & Hygiene
- Clinical experience in HIV, high consequence infectious diseases, antimicrobial resistance, complicated bone and joint infections, outpatient antimicrobial therapy (OPAT), tropical medicine.
- Experience working in a UK infectious diseases unit.
