About us
OXFORD UNIVERSITY HOSPITALS NHS FOUNDATION TRUST OPHTHALMOLOGY FELLOW
The Oxford Eye Hospital (OEH) welcomes applications for these four clinical fellowships offering training in a range of ophthalmic subspecialties.
As well as providing for general ophthalmic needs of the local population, OEH receives tertiary and quaternary referrals of complex disease across all subspecialties so that Fellows can expect a broad exposure across medical and surgical ophthalmology as well as eye emergencies. The Oxford Eye Hospital is a fully equipped department with modern retinal imaging with a dedicated eye emergency department with 26 consultants covering all subspecialties.
These are not posts that are approved for training by the Royal College of Ophthalmologists.
There is some flexibility in the timetables of each fellowship to allow for the experience and interest of the successful candidates but there is also a service component to each post with a requirement to do a session of eye emergency, general on call, and intravitreal injections and lasers. Depending on surgical experience we may be able to provide theatre lists but the local trainees are given priority. Every fellow is assigned an educational supervisor to support them in their learning and in their appraisals particularly if new to working in the NHS.
