Job summary

Full time Locum Oesophagogastric Consultant ( 10 PA) fixed term for period of 1 year commencing January 2024

Main duties of the job

  • Delivery of Cancer and Benign elective care in Outpatients, theatres and Endoscopy.
  • Delivery of an on call subspecialty Oesophagogastric emergency service to Oxfordshire and the region.
  • Participation in the Emergency General Surgery 24/7 general surgery service

About us

The post will join a team of team of 6 Oesophagogastric surgeons working across three sites of the OUH .

The main base of the service is at the Churchill hospital , where the service has Inpatient beds and undertake the majority of their elective operating.

The clinical team are part of a multidisciplinary team working with in the Surgical Directorate within the Suwon Division

Qualifications/Training

Essential

  • Full GMC licence to practise
  • FRCS or equivalent Higher Medical Degree
  • CCST in General Surgery or Registration on GMC Specialist Register in General Surgery;

Experience

Essential

  • Training in Upper GI oncological surgery to specialist level or equivalent Training in therapeutic endoscopic - specifically endoscopic mucosal resection and radiofrequency ablation
  • Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients. Capable of independent Consultant practice in full range of UGI Surgery Capable of independent Consultant practice in therapeutic endoscopic - specifically endoscopic mucosal resection and radiofrequency ablation
  • Ability to make decisions at consultant level

Skills and Knowledge

Essential

  • Sufficient leadership, organisational, communication, professional and personal skills to undertake effectively the role of consultant in Upper GI and general surgery in a large teaching hospital.
  • Good personal and interpersonal skills
  • Good written English. Communication skills should be highly developed.
  • Experience of teaching undergraduates and trainees
  • Evidence of effective and sustained contribution to clinical governance, clinical risk management and clinical audit activities
  • Experience of routine clinical audit

Desirable

  • Knowledge of the organisation of the NHS and the Government's agenda for its modernisation.
  • Computing skills: ability to use word processor, spreadsheet programme and web browser.
  • Management training and experience
