Job summary
Applications are invited to apply for this exciting opportunity to work within a large tertiary haematology service looking after Chimeric Antigen Receptor-T-cell (CAR-T) and Advanced Cellular Therapy patients (ACT). It is an approximately 1-year fixed term post.
The post is available from 5th October 2023 for one year initially.
Main duties of the job
Oxford Advanced Cellular Therapy (ACT) service is a newly established NHS-commissioned CAR-T centre which will deliver a mixed portfolio of commissioned and commercial or investigator-led clinical trial CAR-T. Additionally, the University of Oxford is actively developing an Advanced Cellular Therapies Centre (Oxford Advanced Cellular Therapeutics, OxACT) in conjunction with the NIHR-funded Blood and Transplant Research Unit (BTRU) in Precision Cellular Therapeutics (see here) and the new Gene and Cell Therapy Theme of the NIHR Oxford Biomedical Research Centre.
The postholder will be responsible for the day-to-day coordination and management of CAR-T patients through the patient pathway, leading up to and post admission. There will be opportunities to be involved in audit and translational research.

The post-holder will be expected to work closely with:
- Consultants overseeing the CAR-T pathway and caring for cellular therapy in- and out-patients including Dr Katerina Panopoulou (CAR-T lead clinician), Professor Graham Collins, Professor Ronjon Chakraverty (Director BTRU in Precision Cellular Therapeutics), Dr Toby Eyre, Dr Jaimal Kothari, Professor Karthik Ramasamy, Dr Danmei Xu, Dr Kirsty Sharplin (Clinical BTRU Lead).
- Clinical haematology SpRs and other haematology clinical and research fellows
- CAR-T (and disease specific) specialist nurses
- Members of the haematology trials unit
- Nurses on the ward, ambulatory care, day treatment unit, outpatients
- Members of the wider MDT such as physiotherapists, occupational therapists, dieticians and the palliative care team
The next phase of development for the Oxford Advanced Cellular Therapy Team is to build capacity for clinical trials. There are already cellular therapy trials in set up. A re-structuring of the research team is underway with the aim of producing a single Oxford Haematology Trials Unit capable of delivering a wide range of advanced therapy trials across the haematology disorders.
The post holders duties will be primarily at the Churchill Hospital, but their presence may from time to time be required in other parts of the Trust.
