Are you interested in developing specialist knowledge within Endocrine nursing? Do you enjoy a dynamic clinical environment, with opportunity to build up long term relationships with patients? Do you enjoy working in a team? Do you have skills in Phlebotomy and Cannulation?
This is an opportunity for a highly motivated nurse to join our team of friendly endocrine specialist nurses. The applicant must be enthusiastic, self-motivated and have excellent communication skills.
Part of the role will be working in the Endocrine Day Investigation Unit, completing diagnostic testing for patients with various Endocrine conditions. The role involves enabling and delivering complex care pathways for patients with Endocrine rare disease
You will have a tailored training package, covering competencies, time with Endocrine Specialist Nurses and Endocrine Consultants and SPR's in clinic.
The unit is part of the Oxford Centre for Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism (OCDEM) - a world renowned centre of clinical research excellence in this field. OCDEM is part of OUH Trust.
An informal visit is strongly recommended
Main duties of the job
- to provide a high standard of nursing care for patients
- to be able to offer counselling/support to patients attending the unit
- to be competent in venepuncture and intravenous cannulation ensuring high quality samples are obtained, arrangements made for their transfer to the correct destinations and to be familiar with the storage procedures of such.
- to anticipate emergency situations when possible and provide appropriate treatment, assisting medical staff where necessary
- to be familiar and competent with all specialised endocrine tests performed within the unit
- to provide an advisory service for these patients and where appropriate bringing problems to the attention of medical staff
