Orthotics Technician

The Orthotics department at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre is seeking an organised technically capable individual for the role of an Orthotic Technician within the production team.The Orthotic department has a large clinical and workshop facility in a purpose built department which uses a variety of manufacturing techniques including CNC technology. The core function of the service is the integrated working practices between skilled technicians and Orthotists in delivering compassionate excellence to our service users. The department is well respected in the profession for its orthotic service delivery.

Main duties of the job

The role comprises of the fabrication of a wide range of bespoke medical devices 'Orthoses'. Relevant experience within in a similar environment would be desirable however training both internal and external would be provided.The post holder will be able to demonstrate excellent hand skills with an attention to detail while working under pressure to meet the departments service demands.The post holder will be working as part of an established multi-skilled production team and will be working in all areas of the manufacture process.The Orthotic service provides the assessment and provision of equipment and on-going care for individuals requiring external bracing supports. This key role within the Production department would suit a technically efficient person with good hand, machine and manufacturing skills. The successful candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively within a multi-disciplinary team working closely with technical, clinical and administrative staff.Prospective short-listed candidates will be invited to undergo a practical skills evaluation as part of the interview process. Personal protective equipment will be provided for this.

Ensure all finished items are correct to technical specifications supplied and that the required standards of quality, safety and workmanship are maintained.
Carry out tasks in priority order as detailed by their supervisor and reporting back on the progression of the manufacture of this work.
Responsible for own safe practice in the workshop for machinery and hand tools. Responsible in maintaining or cleaning own or shared tool kit and equipment, and reporting any known faults.
