Job summary
We are looking for a dynamic, forward thinking, enthusiastic experienced Band 6 or Band 7 Occupational Therapist or Physiotherapist with a specialist interest in frailty to lead the implementation of the early active recovery service to patients on the Acute General Medicine wards and Complex Medicine Units. The Acute General Medicine department is a supportive and friendly integrated physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy team with good working relationships with the multidisciplinary team.
You will need to have solid experience and knowledge of a range of common pathologies aging, falls and frailty and ability to apply your knowledge from a number of disciplines including neurology, trauma, oncology and musculoskeletal areas. You will need to lead the model of early active recovery across the Acute General Medicine wards and Gerontology wards and therefore experience of service change and quality improvement is highly desirable. You will therefore need high levels of professionalism and strong communication skills to work effectively in this role as part of the multidisciplinary team to develop this new service. Main duties of the job
- To lead the implementation of the early active recovery service to patients on Acute General Medicine wards and Complex Medicine Units, including those with highly complex presentations, as part of a cohesive multi-professional team.
- To work collaboratively with patients and their carers to effectively assess, goal plan and treat patients following admission to hospital and strive to maximise their independence and quality of life.
- Use expert knowledge and skills to contribute to strategic planning and development of the Therapy Service in the management of the older person.
- To supervise and teach recently registered professionals, support workers, therapy studentsand members of the MDT
- Supervise, initiate and participate in evidence-based projects and is responsible for implementing changes within the Acute General Medicine and Gerontology teams, and the setting and monitoring standards of practice.
- To take an active part in the team's extended hours and seven-day working roster to maximise the access and delivery of older adult rehabilitation.
- Deputise for service lead, implement workforce strategy and responsible for recruitment.
