Job summary
A new and exciting opportunitiy has arisen in the Hands and Plastic Injuries (HAPI) service for 2x full time specialist nurses who's main role will be to deliver and oversee ambulatory care for our hands and plastic surgery patients.
This new ambulatory care pathway will run every day of the week from 8am to 9pm, weekends and Bank holidays included, and will provide Plastic surgery patients with daily reviews and antibiotic treatment in an ambulatory setting. The post holder will ultimately assess patients, provide specialist wound care and support the overall running of the ambulatory service and the HAPI clinic.
We are looking for enthusiastic and flexible candidates with an interest in Plastic Surgery and Burns care, as well as innovating the service and providing care in line with the Trust values. Training and development opportunities will be provided in the role, with access to our Specialist Surgery Practice and development team.
Main duties of the job
- To co-ordinate and supervise the day-to-day delivery of ambulatory care for patients attending the Hands and Plastics Injuries (HAPI) service.
- To support and coordinate the daily activity across the Hands and Plastic Injury (HAPI) service, including daily reviews, new and follow up clinics and plastic surgery minor procedures.
- To manage patient scheduling and communication across clinics and confidently access and use a range of IT systems, including the Oxford acute referral system and theatre scheduler.
- To work at an advanced clinical level as a specialist in Plastic Surgery and Burns Care and act as a role model for effective care delivery in HAPI.

- Be responsible and accountable for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating ambulatory care for patients and their relatives, whilst organising and prioritising the workload as the coordinator of the Plastics Ambulatory service.
- Undertake daily reviews of Plastic Surgery patients on the ambulatory care pathway, including assessment, providing treatment and specialist wound care, as well as working with the Hands and Plastics team in the delivery of care.
- Manage patient scheduling and communication including clinic appointments, follow-ups, surgical procedures, diagnostic tests and all other care related activities.
- Facilitate the 08:00am daily multidisciplinary team (MDT) plastics trauma meeting on a rotational basis with other clinical staff: actioning acute referrals to the service and providing support to the general running of the Hands and Plastics Injury (HAPI) clinic.
- Preparing specialist equipment and providing assistance for surgical procedures undertaken within the clinic.
- Participate in clinical audits, research studies and quality improvement projects with support from the Lead Nurse, as well as contributing to staff development and education.
- Adhere to local and the OUH Trust protocols and guidelines at all times, whilst promoting and acting in accordance with the OUH Trust values.
