Job summary

A Medical Retina Clinical Research Fellow post has become available at the Oxford Eye Hospital. The post is 60% research and 40% clinical. The post is funded for a year, but may be extended, subject to satisfactory progress, for a further year.

Main duties of the job

  • To assist with the setting up/approval process/submitting amendments of the OKKO research project
  • To encourage and aid in recruitment, explanation of OKKO device and follow up of patients as required
  • To collate phenotype/demographics/multimodal imaging information and be involved in the analysis of these data
  • To provide recruitment, documentation and accurate completion of study CRFs in accordance with clinical trial study protocols in accordance with GCP.
  • To be involved in presenting findings to colleagues at internal and external meetings (travelling within the UK and abroad when necessary) with approval from supervisor
  • To be involved in drafting publications with input from supervisory team
  • To demonstrate initiative in supporting the development and implementation of the project and ensuring the timely execution of research
  • To liaise with the Oxford and Nottingham teams regarding data collection and running of the project between the sites
  • To assist with audit and data collection ensuring the validity and reliability of data at all times including maintaining accurate and complete records of all findings.
  • To ensure appropriate consent for research is obtained from the relevant patients
  • To ensure up to date training in current GCP practices

Job responsibilities

The research component (60%) will comprise recruitment and collection of data clinical/demographics/imaging for patients enrolled in the OKKO research project investigating the role of the OKKO device for patients with macular disease. The post holder will be involved in the day to day running of this study in Oxford and its ancillary units working with the lead in Oxford (Downes) to enable recruitment of patients with macular disease; coordinate across the two sites regarding collection, analysis and writing up of the data obtained and working with the nurse researchers and admin/coordinators allocated to this project. Essential

  • Full GMC registration with licence to practice
  • Medical Qualification Part 1 FRCOphth
  • Training in medical retina at least 6 months and experience in giving intravitreal injections (minimum of 200)
  • oA medical degree with a minimum of 4 years of Ophthalmological experience and at least six months of Medical Retinal clinical experience

Desirable

  • FRCOphth part 2 or equivalent

Experience

Essential

  • Specialist trainee in clinical ophthalmology OST level 4 or equivalent to 4 years in Ophthalmology. Clinical skills and competence in medical retina at least 6 months
  • Presenting own work both as talks and posters at international medical or scientific conferences, or as a publication.
  • Expertise in delivering intraocular injections (at least 200 prior to employment)
  • Evidence of publications /presentations

Desirable

  • Emergency medicine/surgery /ophthalmic post
  • Research experience publishing first author papers.
  • Previous experience conducting trials.
