The Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust is one of the largest NHS teaching trusts in the country. It provides a wide range of general and specialist clinical services and is a base for medical education, training and research.

The Trust comprises four hospitals - the John Radcliffe Hospital, Churchill Hospital and Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Headington, Oxford and the Horton Hospital in Banbury.

The Adult Diabetes Service covers both in- and out-patients and provides clinical, support and education services to patients and to other clinical staff across the four hospitals. The service is part of the Oxford Centre for Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism (OCDEM) which, apart from providing clinical care, is a world-class centre for research.

An opportunity has arisen to join and lead our dynamic and developing Adult Diabetes Service for initially a 6 month period.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for an experienced Diabetes Specialist Nurse (Specialist Nurse Practitioner) to work either work towards improving the waitingtimes for appts with the diabetes nurse team. Also to take some of the leadership within the team across all the Trust site. for this time frame

This role requires a high level of diabetes knowledge and you should also have proven management skills and be able to demonstrate effective teaching and presentation skills or the ability to develop to these skills

You will need to be a highly motivated individual with a confident and professional attitude. You will be committed to delivering evidence-based practice in a multidisciplinary environment.

You will have an understanding of the fundamentals of patients' needs with respect to Diabetes and the need to support care across inpatient, out patients and in liaison with other stakeholders is vital to this role. The service supports in addition to the above an ante natal service, pumps and CGM, DAFNE, renal and dialysis, transition and Young adult services with more innovations in development for the department.

You will be expected to advocate evidence based decisions and use your leadership skills to promote best practice, working with multidisciplinary and other specialist teams. You will need to be able to work both autonomously and collaboratively, making safe decisions and facilitating the implementation of initiatives to improve diabetes care across the Trust.
