Job summary
We are looking for a HCPC registered Specialist Biomedical Scientist with a Specialist Portfolio in Haematology & Transfusion, or equivalent, to join us at the Burton site of Derbyshire Pathology in a full-time, permanent role. Consideration will also be given to candidates within 12 months of completion of the Specialist Portfolio and such candidates would be employed as Band 6 annex 21 (75% top of Band6) until completion of the portfolio.You would be based in the busy Haematology & Blood Transfusion sections of the Burton laboratory helping to deliver technical excellence with enthusiasm, attention to detail and a professional, can-do attitude.
This post is based on the Burton site but candidates may be expected to work across the UHDB sites to cover service demands as and when required.

Main duties of the job
- To undertake the day to day sample processing and analytical clinical investigations for Haematology and Blood Transfusion to the agreed standard of timeliness and quality
- Supervise Band 5 Biomedical Scientists and Associate Practitioners within their work area
- To maintain and operate all equipment in the laboratory to the desired standards of safety, cleanliness and performance
- To engage in training and competency assessment of staff and perform annual staff appraisals
Familiarisation and understanding of ISO 15189 standards, Health & Safety requirements; audit and training/education techniques is essential. Experience of utilising transformation methodologies to drive change and improve service delivery is also desirable. Proactive individuals, with drive and dedication will excel in this post.
