Gynaecology Triage Pathway Coordinator

Job summary

12 month fixed-term contract or secondment for a full time Gynaecology Triage pathway co-ordinator. The role is predominantly to work at Queens Hospital Burton but regular cross site working and cover will also be expected.

The purpose of the post will be to support the Gynaecology Triage Nurses in the clinical triage of all Gynaecology suspected cancer referrals. The post will help to support the delivery of the faster diagnosis cancer standards, ensuring a smooth and efficient service for patients at the start of their pathway, including first investigations and on-going care.

The post holder will monitor clinic appointment outcomes, ensure relevant tests are booked and monitor a result database to ensure timely review of results by a clinician to support the Gynaecology teams across UHDB to meet CWT guidance.

The Gynaecology Triage Pathway Co-ordinator role will involve patient contact as well as supporting the Gynaecology Triage Team with general administration tasks.

The successful candidate will be supported by both the Triage team & the Gynaecology Oncology CNS team, will be offered a training competency package along with an appropriate supernumerary period.

Whilst the post holder will work directly with the Gynaecology Triage Team, they will be managed by the operational team.

Main duties of the job

  • Receiving all external and internal suspected cancer referrals and adding them to a database ready for the triage nurse to review.
  • Obtaining additional information for patients using multiple hospital systems and liaising with GPs referrers and patients themselves.
  • Calling patients daily to arrange/book in investigations on behalf on the triage nurse.
  • Administration and clerical duties including updating excel databases, chasing/tracking of MRI/CT/Ultrasound and histology reports and escalating issues to the Triage Nurse.
  • Responsible for the managing and organising of your own workload, you must be a confident communicator and able to liaise with clinicians and clinical staff and be able to multi-task.
  • You should also have demonstrable experience of working in a patient orientated environment, the successful candidate must be highly organised, self-motivated and able to use their own initiative
  • Review PTL actions and attend regular meetings on behalf of Triage Nurse
