Job summary
University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust is looking for an experienced HCPC registered prosthetist to join the dynamic amputee rehabilitation team based in Derby on a secondment basis for 12 months.
The role will involve working with your own complex clinical case load and therefore clinical expertise in at least one area of prosthetics is essential. You will undertake true MDT working, supported by a consultant, specialist physiotherapists, specialist occupational therapists, and administrative support and a team of on-site prosthetic technicians. You will be involved with pre-amputation assessment, Primary patient MDT consultation and lifelong prosthetic provision, collaborating with the whole team to provide holistic solutions across the range of amputation levels and congenital limb difference. The role holder will be an integral member of the senior clinical team and will work closely with the clinical lead Prosthetist with the opportunity to be involved in research, audit and governance for the service, driving development and quality of service provision.

Main duties of the job
- Responsible for all aspects of prosthetics patient care for their own caseload.
- Make clinical decisions regarding the patients' lifelong care. Plan, evaluate, implement and develop patient care.
- Accountable for the completed manufactured device.
- Responsible for identifying the changing needs of the patient.
- Responsible for referring patients to a medical clinic.
- Responsible for referring to the prosthetics clinic.
- Responsible for seeking advice/guidance from Prosthetist colleagues, Medical colleagues, or Therapy colleagues.
- Responsible and accountable for identifying, requesting and supervising technical staff support when dealing directly with patients.
- Communicate and provide professional advice as required to patients, carers, referrers and appropriate individuals in the MDT.

- To supervise and assist junior members of staff.
- Undertake CPD in accordance with British Association of Prosthetists and Orthotists Best Practice guidelines and Rehabilitation Engineering Services/Division policy.

- To co-ordinate and deliver training and education to medical postgraduates, other staff and placement students.
