Job summary
Our Maternity Service at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust (UHDB) are on a journey of improvement. As a service we strive to improve the experience for our expectant's mothers and their families through listening to our service users with our Trust board who have made significant investment in the maternity services financially and support of staff and service development.
The Maternity Services works in partnership with the Local Maternity and Neonatal Systems (LMNS) to drive the national maternity agenda forward to improve the safety and quality of our services.
We are excited to offer the role of Workforce and Transformation Lead Midwife working cross site. We are looking for an enthusiastic and passionate midwife who wants to make a difference, by leading with compassion, implementing quality improvement initiatives and continuing to develop high quality services.
As a visible and compassionate leader, you will work in close collaboration with your colleagues, providing senior management cover, and working together to lead on delivery of the maternity and wider Trust agenda.
The post holder has a specific responsibility to support the promotion of high standards of care and embed patient safety. This will be through effective translation of learning from incidents and embedding this at a service level.
The post holder will participate in the senior manager on call rota.
Main duties of the job
Your role will play a key part in improving the service we provide to the families who use our services at UHDB alongside our vision of maternity transformation. Responsible for implementing a strategic approach to nursing and midwifery workforce planning and service transformation. The post holder will interpret national policy and professional standards and apply these to inform and lead the development of local strategies and policy.
Specifically, the role's areas of responsibility are :
- Understand and monitor current and future predicted vacancies for registered and unregistered nursing and midwifery staff within maternity.
- Have oversight of the global majority workforce to ensure equity in experience and equal opportunity for career progression through the Workforce Race Equality Standards.
- To contribute to the development and review of the Trusts' and CNO Workforce Strategy, paying specific attention to the factors that will empower and motivate the workforce and enhance patient care, both within and outside the organisation.
- Work with the practice development team and retention midwives to develop a shared vision and project plan for fostering an environment that encourages learning and sustains the personal and professional development of staff through career conversations, coaching, career development initiatives and support.
