We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and highly motivated individual to gain experience within a well-established Bariatric Unit (East Midlands Bariatric and Metabolic Institute). If this sounds like you, come and join our friendly dietetic team of 4 dietitians, nutritionists and dietetic assistant practitioners.
EMBMI delivers high quality care to patients accessing Bariatric surgery from assessment through to 2 years post operatively. We currently offer Sleeve Gastrectomy and Roux en Y Gastric Bypass and One anastomosis gastric bypass procedures. The clinical team includes Bariatric Surgeons, endocrinologists, Specialist dietitians and nutritionists, nurse specialists, radiographers, anaesthetists, physios, and a dedicated team on a dedicated ward.
Multidisciplinary working is at the heart of the first class service EMBMI delivers. EMBMI also actively participates in lots of local and national research and education with members of the team on the BOMSS committee and running an annual national symposium. We currently have several professors and associate professors on the team and work in conjunction with the universities of Nottingham and Derby.
Main duties of the job
The dietetic team are very well respected by the multidisciplinary team, whom you will work very closely with. The service has strong links with the local universities so you will be encouraged to take part in on-going and new research and audit projects.
The Dietetic Department has an established student training programme for A, B and C placements, in which you will participate, and the department encourages innovation, CPD and professional development.
Assessment and support to specialist weight management outpatient clinics.. Providing dietetic advice in various MDT and dietetic led outpatient clinics. Providing dietary advice and support to in-patients following surgery. Educational teaching sessions and enhanced recovery sessions. Regular attendance at multidisciplinary meetings . Monitoring of diets and blood chemistry to prevent and treat micronutrient deficiency. Management of nutritionally complex patients including nutritional support and artificial feeding. Providing education and being involved with training , education, research and audit alongside peers. You will be fully supported by other experienced members of the team. A comprehensive competency package is available to help develop your skills in bariatric dietetics.
