Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen at Derby Hospital for an experienced maternity care assistant/ health care assistant/ maternity support worker to work within maternity as part of a multi-professional team caring for women and their families in the antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal periods.
The successful candidate must be able to work flexibly in a variety of maternity settings, including triage, labour ward and the antenatal/postnatal ward and involves working alongside midwives to support clinical care of women and their babies, involving undertaking routine observations as well as undertaking administrative tasks. They must also be willing to work day shifts and night shifts over a 7-day week, including bank holidays.
Applicants must have grade C or equivalent in English/Maths at GCSE level or functional skills at level 2, Health care qualification level 2 or 3 and recent experience of working within an acute clinical setting.
The successful interviewee will be required to provide evidence of these grades/qualifications prior to interview.
Main duties of the job

Assist with the preparation and care of women who require operative birth procedures.

Support the medical and midwifery team in general delivery rooms at birth and immediate postnatal period.

Working on the inpatient ward assisting with care.

Working in antenatal areas across the maternity unit.

Basic maternal and neonatal observations.

Venepuncture and neonatal blood samples.
-
Catheterisation.
-
Contemporaneous documentation.

Assist with general hygiene, nutrition and infant feeding support.

Undertake general housekeeping duties to maintain cleanliness and safe stock levels.

Communicate with families and the multi-disciplinary team.

Escalate concerns to appropriate multi-professional team members.
