Job summary
Applications are invited for a full-time or part time experienced Consultant Clinical Scientist in microbiology at University Hospitals Derby and Burton.
We are part of a modern laboratory within Derbyshire Pathology, which includes laboratories at Derby, Burton, and Chesterfield, with this role covering Derby and Burton.
Consultant Clinical Scientist applicants must be registered with the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC), have the Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists by examination, and certificate of completion of HSST.

Main duties of the job
You will work in collaboration with our strong, clinical, scientific, laboratory, and quality teams, to actively support the clinical lead in further developing the clinical microbiology service, and in the provision of training to more junior clinical staff as part of our succession planning.
Your role will be essential to help lead, deliver, and develop our busy and expanding services for the benefit of patients, and is key to our succession planning over the next five years.
You will be participating in the duty microbiologist rota and provide a Consultant Clinical Advisory Service in Clinical Microbiology for the diagnosis investigation and treatment of patients to medical, nursing and other healthcare staff within the Trust, the Mental Health, the community and ICB's in southern Derbyshire and Staffordshire. The provision of clinical advice will include guidance on the interpretation of results and the selection of further tests to aid the diagnosis and treatment of patients.
Participation in the Consultant Microbiology out of hours rota, ensuring availability of clinical and analytical advice at all times is required. At present this is a 1 in 5 rota shared between the Consultant microbiologists.
