Consultant Therapeutic Radiographer - Breast

Job summary

Applications are invited for a newly created Consultant Radiographer posts to work with Breast Radiotherapy patients within UHDB (University Hospitals of Derby and Burton).

The postholder will be expected to undertake a training programme to develop into an independent consultant practitioner delivering a comprehensive radiotherapy service to breast patients within the defined scope of practice.

The postholder will provide expert clinical practice, advice and support across the radiotherapy pathway, from referral to treatment delivery and follow up.

Main duties of the job

To provide a comprehensive therapeutic radiographer consultant service for cancer patients requiring breast radiotherapy, improving service delivery to patients undergoing radiotherapy, optimising the use of existing resources and developing services

To manage their own complex patient caseload accepting referrals from the Consultant Clinical Oncologists or multidisciplinary team. This will involve providing clinics for the clinical assessment and review of patients that are for consideration of breast radiotherapy

To contour, approve and prescribe Radiotherapy in accordance with clinical protocols

To undertake informed consent within the boundaries of department protocol

To review patients undergoing external beam radiotherapy and advise and manage acute radiation induced toxicity

To undertake independent or dependant prescribing or administration of medication using Trust protocols and in accordance with current legislation

  • DCR(T) or BSc in Radiotherapy and Oncology
  • MSc in a related subject or working towards HCPC registration

Desirable

  • Desirable progress towards a Doctorate level qualification
  • Independent prescriber

Experience

  • Extensive experience working in Radiotherapy
  • Expert knowledge of regulations relating to informed consent
