Head of Cancer Performance
The closing date is 23 June 2025
Job summary
We are looking for an ambitious and talented senior leader with a flair for high quality management and administration for the role of Head of Cancer to play a pivotal role in driving success of our Cancer Centre and wider multi-disciplinary teams to improve services for cancer patients at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton. Reporting directly to the Associate Director, Patient Access & Performance, as part of the Chief Operating Officer's portfolio, this is a demanding role with influence and impact across the whole Trust and beyond, so it will require good stakeholder management skills via clear communications and visible leadership to create the impact required.
You will also be joining us at a time of unprecedented challenge in Cancer services as we look to revolutionise our services to become more responsive for our patients. This will require you to work closely with the Associate Director of Patient Access and Performance to develop and execute strategic plans for cancer services and have proven experience and knowledge of change management tools and techniques, whilst at the same time ensuring that the patient is at the centre of everything you do. Experience and knowledge of cancer services will be advantageous.
Main duties of the job
This is a key leadership position where you will support performance delivery against all national cancer waiting times standards across all divisions, working collaboratively with the divisions and the cancer teams to develop their capability, deliver specific performance targets and standards, develop, improve and enhance the services they provide whilst continuing to improve patient care and outcomes.
You will have a track record of demonstrable leadership, being a role model for high quality values and behaviour, and the proven ability to lead or support transformational change in order to improve how we do things, with a strong background in driving performance improvements and overseeing service delivery.
It will be critical that you have the ability to inspire staff, stimulate innovation and collaboration and strive for the highest standards of performance. As a financially astute manager, you will also be fully committed to delivering services as efficiently as possible.
We will provide the successful applicant with the exposure, experiences and stretch critical to their development for the next stage of their career to Director level and beyond if required. As a result, ongoing coaching and mentoring to support that development will be provided.
We are looking to fill this assignment as soon as possible. If this sounds like just the challenge you've been looking for, then we look forward to hearing from you!
