Senior Occupational Therapist DAU

Job summary
The post holder is required to work independently and make timely and clear decisions. Ideally we are looking for an Occupational Therapist with dual professional competencies (or a willingness to acquire) to work generically and have experience of perform rapid functional and mobility assessments, prescribing equipment and describing patient needs.
General day to day tasks involve chasing up or ordering equipment, reviewing function and transfers to support package of care selection, manual handling queries and problem solving transport/access issues.
A strength based practitioner with excellent communication skills and sensitivity is needed to manage patients and relatives with unclear expectations about their discharge.
The post holder will liaise closely with the therapy team on ward 5 at Florence Nightingale Community Hospital where patients often transfer following a short stay in DAU when plans need longer than a few hours to fulfil.
Experience as a clinical educator is desirable to support the student placement offer made to local universities.
Good, recent knowledge and practical clinical experience of a broad range of acute conditions is also required as the patients attending the DAU will come from a full spectrum of speciality wards.
Main duties of the job
The Occupational Therapist will work closely with the DAU team of nursing staff, Health Care Assistants, Discharge Support Officers, Discharge Support Leads, doctors, pharmacist and volunteers.
Social services teams from both Derby City and Derbyshire councils are based on the unit and the post holder will liaise regularly with them to support and facilitate discharge plans and answer queries.
