Job summary

SPECIALTY DOCTOR IN VASCULAR SURGERY

A 12-month fixed term Vascular Specialty Doctor is required for University Hospitals of Derby and Burton Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, based at the Royal Derby Hospital.

The successful appointee will be actively involved in supporting ward rounds and theatre lists as well as running independent outpatient clinics and theatre lists.

The appointee will participate in the dedicated vascular surgical on-call rota (1:6)

Main duties of the job

Main duties and responsibilities of role:

  1. Clinical support to Consultants in Outpatients, Day case, Theatres and ward rounds, including assisting in theatre and running independent clinics and day case lists. Clinical support to consultants in endoscopy if successful candidate has the appropriate experience.
  2. Responsibility for the continuing care & treatment of patients in your charge & personal performance of clinical duties as agreed in your job plan.
  3. Responsibility to carry out any work related to & reasonably incidental to the duties set out in their Job Plan e.g. the keeping of records & the provision of reports, the proper delegation of tasks, maintaining skills & knowledge.
  4. The appointee will be expected to work as part of a team with a responsibility to maintain the highest standards of clinical care. Active participation in internal supporting professional activities such as Departmental & Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance & Audit is essential.
  5. Responsibility to be flexible and co-operate with reasonable requests to cover colleague's leave and absences where they are safe & competent & where it is practicable to do so
  6. Responsibility for the teaching and assessment as directed, contributing to graduate & continuing medical education activity locally, regionally & nationally as appropriate.

  • MBBS or equivalent
  • Full GMC registration with a licence to practise at time of application

Desirable

  • FRCS
  • Distinctions, prizes, awards, scholarships
  • Higher Degree (PhD or MD)

Clinical Experience

Essential

  • At least 3 years' UK experience in Vascular Surgery at Registrar level
  • Minimum 3 years SHO (or equivalent) General Surgery experience

Desirable

  • UK experience in Vascular Surgery
  • Postgraduate Teaching Qualification
  • Experience of running independent outpatient clinics and day case lists

Clinical Governance/improving quality of patient care

  • Good publication record and/or formal teaching experience
