Job summary

Royal Derby Hospital Trauma and Orthopaedic Occupational Therapy team are a large team with a 19 registered and support staff . The team have an upcoming vacancy at band 6 senior OT level.

The post offers a fantastic opportunity to develop leadership skills and enhance clinical skills. The team have significant experience to support those wishing to develop a career path within the orthopaedic speciality. The successful applicant will work closely with MDT colleagues and cover a very mixed caseload across a 150 bed base. This includes both trauma and elective patients across 6 wards including a private patient unit.

The team support the busy orthopaedic OP clinic, perform pre op assessments and lead education classes. Innovation in service delivery and continuous improvement is encouraged

Leadership is provided by an 8a Team lead and band 7 clinical lead and your learning, development and support within the post will be our priority.

In turn you will have the opportunity to responsible for supporting and mentoring junior members of the team as well as students with your experience and knowledge.

Participation in clinical audit and service review to deliver efficient and best practise is encouraged.

The department supports flexible working patterns across 7 days enabling positive home and work-life balances.

Main duties of the job

You will work as a senior Occupational Therapist to provide a high standard service for orthopaedic trauma and elective inpatients.

To be responsible for supervising and teaching junior staff, assistants and students working within the speciality.

To provide advanced occupational therapy assessment and treatment to T&O patients and provide specialist advice and support to other professionals regarding the management of patients throughout the Trust.

You will be required to demonstrate that you are:

  • Organised and efficient
  • Have demonstrable experience in acute orthopaedics and discharge planning
  • Have experience of supervising and teaching others.
  • An enthusiastic and motivated team member
  • An excellent communicator
  • Flexible and adaptable to meet service requirements
  • Genuinely interested in supporting the needs of those with complex and physical and cognitive impairment
  • Able to work on your own as well as part of a team
  • Flexible with regard to 7 day working
