University Hospitals Derby and Burton (UHDB) Pharmacy department are looking to recruit an experienced and enthusiastic Pharmacist to lead our well respected and dynamic Antimicrobial Pharmacist Team providing high quality pharmaceutical care to our patients with a specific focus on improving antimicrobial stewardship practice across the Trust. You will be an integral part in the wider microbiology and infection prevention and control team . The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic and highly motivated clinical pharmacist who is able to work both individually and as part of the wider healthcare team. The key aspect of the role will be involvement in the antimicrobial stewardship programme in the Trust to help reduce the rise in antimicrobial resistance. You will lead the team in developing a trust wide culture that reduces hospital acquired infection and supports prudent use of antimicrobials.

Main duties of the job

  • To ensure exceptional care together is provided
  • To lead, deliver, develop and evaluate pharmacy services to the OPAT service across all sites within UHDB in accordance with national priorities and local objectives.
  • To ensure that medicines are used safely and effectively with a focus on antimicrobials
  • To lead the antimicrobial clinical pharmacy team, acting as a role model and developing the team in line with the needs of the service
  • To be the pharmacy lead for antimicrobial stewardship
  • To be an active member of the pharmacy management team

  • Facilitate the cost effective use of antimicrobials by providing regular reports to the Divisional/business unit/trust-wide management and consultant team
  • Work with the Business Units to develop services that meet the needs of the services, with respect to antibiotics, often requiring innovation, technology and new ways of working.
  • Manage the clinical pharmacy service to the OPAT service, leading on strategy, workforce, policy, service development and all other aspects of activities relating to the designated team
  • Provide a specialist clinical pharmacy service (this includes evaluating medication of individual patients for interactions, duplication etc., using medicines information and research findings to manage therapeutic problems, reduce risks and advise consultants and other healthcare professionals. This may require analysis of data which is incomplete or conflicting).
  • Maintain and develop policies and procedures covering all aspects of the pharmacy service regarding antimicrobials. This includes administrative, clinical, technical and training information and Standard Operating Procedures sufficient to describe the functions of the Pharmacy Service.
