Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated, proactive and enthusiastic operational manager to join a vibrant and committed team within Specialist Medicine at UHDB.
The Deputy General Manager will work closely with the General Manager and Clinical Director to lead Specialist Medicine Business Unit 2 (SMBU2) - a large and complex Business Unit within the Division of Medicine encompassing the following specialties:
- Cardiology
- Clinical Measurement
- Diabetes and Endocrinology
- Endoscopy
- Medical Daycase
- Renal
- Rheumatology
- Gastroenterology and Hepatology
This is a valuable opportunity for a highly experienced and credible senior manager to contribute to leading a large and varied BU; developing strategic business plans and performance management frameworks to ensure the delivery of high quality care, performance and financial targets.
Our services have a presence across the Royal Derby Hospital, Queen's Hospital Burton, Florence Nightingale Community Hospital, Sir Robert Peel and Samuel Johnson Community Hospital as well as other community providers. The successful candidate will work across all sites. SMBU2 has an expenditure budget of approximately £65m and employs around 1036 WTE members of staff.
Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will support the General Manager in the leadership of a large multi-disciplinary team across the BU as well as taking specific operational responsibility for one of the specialties within the BU (in collaboration with a Service Coordinator and Matron).
A key dimension to the role is to drive forward the recovery of services; engaging clinical and managerial colleagues in the complex management agenda including the delivery of our clinical strategies, innovating and future proofing our services to deliver local and national priorities.
