Job summary

This post will be based with the adult diabetes team servicing all three sites of University Hospitals of Derby and Burton(UHDB); Royal Derby Hospital, Florence Nightingale Community Hospital and Queens Hospital Burton.

To work as an active member of adult diabetes and dietetic team, working with a highly specialised clinical caseload of adults on complex insulin regimens and blood glucose lowering agents. To support the implementation and use of technology (smart connected pens, CGM and insulin pumps).

To be the lead for diabetes education for adults on all types of therapies that meet the referral criteria of the service. To be responsible for the pathway, process development and audit of education provision.

To support the clinical lead for the pump service and work closely with the Lead Diabetes Dietitian at UHDB to ensure equity of dietetic service provision across the Trust.

Main duties of the job

The highly specialist dietitian is responsible for a complex, highly specialist clinical case load providing advanced dietary and lifestyle advice to patients and carers.

To work as a highly skilled practitioner within the multidisciplinary team and undertake a range of clinical duties as part of this role. This will include but is not limited to the following: attending relevant multi-disciplinary team meetings and clinics, running dietetic specific clinics andoverseeing and delivering group education provision.

To advise on complex areas of nutrition and diabetes, for example, exercise, carbohydrate to insulin ratios, insulin sensitivity factors and translate complex nutritional information into practical dietary advice.

To support the implementation and use of technology (smart connected pens, CGM and insulin pumps).
