Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Respiratory Educator post at the Royal Derby Hospital.

We are looking for an experienced Nurse with specialist knowledge and skills in the care of patients with respiratory disorders. The right candidate should have exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, be a visible leader and be passionate about high quality and innovative care.

As the Respiratory educator you will be responsible for organising mandatory, essential to role training and specialist training including Respiratory specific training. Induction of all new nursing staff and support with the induction of medical staff. Also supporting the Respiratory elements of the medical specialities High Dependency course. You will ensure all current training is up to date and compliant with national frameworks and produce monthly training compliance reports, as well as thematic reviews, supporting quality improvement throughout the Respiratory Unit.

The successful candidate must be degree qualified or working towards this or hold or be willing to undertake a similar teaching qualification.

Main duties of the job

The working time for this post is Monday to Friday 8am until 4pm. However you will need to be flexible in order to capture all staff.

The main duties of the job are as follows

  • Arrange training both mandatory and non-mandatory
  • Backfill on wards to allow staff to attend training
  • Support students
  • Support newly qualified staff
  • Arrange newly qualified induction
  • Facilitate training sessions on wards regularly
  • Keep training packages and induction packages for staff of all grades that work within the Respiratory Unit up to date
  • Support wards when there are significant staffing gaps
  • Support introduction of new equipment/ devices and roll out
  • Ensure all respiratory competencies are completed and up to date

You will act as a role model and someone for whom patients, staff and relatives can turn to for assistance, advice and support.

You will support the Management Team in the day-to-day management of the ward whilst supporting junior members of staff in the clinical setting.
